Trout Fishing Ahh, yes. Trico time, the time of year accomplished fly fisherman throw down their rods in disgust. Take up the golf clubs, repaint the house, design the ninth wonder of the world. Anything but test their patience and skill against the dreaded Tricos and the super selective trout that feed on them. Called the ‘White Winged Devils' in the gentlest of circles, these tiny micro hatches can infuriate the most skilled of the fly fishing angler. Huge lunker trout hunker down in feeding lanes slurping up every Trico spinner except the pattern you are offering to them. And after several hundred tedious passes, after you have lightened your tippet, after you have changed your position after you have done everything but jump in the water and grab the fish with your bare hands, you give up in disgust, and wait for something larger and more tangible to come off the water. A nice Salmonfly hatch would be the ticket. But, alas there are ways to improve your catch rate during these prolific hatches.

Fly Fishing and Kids I have taught all three of my kids about fly fishing, and many of their friends as well. Like all things taught to humans, some caught on faster than others. Some pursued it, so never touched a fly rod again. I have become a patient and good teacher, and now enjoy the time I spend teaching others, in particular adolescents to fly fish. I was not always so good at this. When my two oldest kids were both younger than five, I was not as patient as I became later. Not having as much fishing time as I would have liked, I sometimes resented the feeling of having to teach fly fishing, instead of just being able to lose myself in my passion. Yet I must have done something right, because years later they are both knowledgeable fly fishermen.

The Nature of The rainbow Trout You can find rainbow trout in several areas including the Great Lakes region of North America and west of the Rocky Mountains in fresh water lakes and streams. Their native region is actually the eastern Pacific Ocean. In recent years, rainbow trout have been introduced to several areas including South America, Africa, Japan, New Zealand, and in parts of Asia and Europe. People who plan to do some rainbow trout fishing will need to know several things about this fish. First of all, realize that these fish like to fight and are aggressive by nature. They tend to be difficult fish to reel in. The angler or fly fisherman will find them to be a great challenge. Also, rainbow trout tend to stay in the upper 30-35 feet of water so there are easy to spot. Getting into the boat, well, that is determined by the fisherman's skill. But, these fish are a great catch and anyone who is interested in doing some rainbow trout fishing, should ensure that they have nice, strong equipment and a good sense of how to deal with a struggling fish!
