The Importance of Fly LinesWhy are fly lines so important? Just like with fly rods and fly reels, fly lines need to match up with the types of fly fishing that you do. This match should be made precisely, too. Thus, if you have a 5 weight fly rod and a 5 weight fly reel, and it extremely important to make sure you have a 5 weight fly line. By not having a properly "balanced" fly rod outfit (which is where the fly rod, fly reel and fly line match in weight), the angler is very likely to have extreme difficulty in casting. |
A Simple Way To Identify and Catch The Big One In River!River dry fly fishing considered as the purest form of fly fishing inspired generations of writers, artists, poets and even philosophers to wax lyrical about its pleasures. The gist to river dry fly fishing lies in the rise. Here, the angler waits patiently for a rise to begin before he or she starts to fish. And the art comes in persuading a particular trout to take your artifical pattern among a host of natural flies. Rise forms vary widely from hour-to hour and river-to river. >From the way a trout breaks the surface (a rise), an experienced angler can tell how and what the trout feeds. |
Fly Fishing and KidsI have taught all three of my kids about fly fishing, and many of their friends as well. Like all things taught to humans, some caught on faster than others. Some pursued it, so never touched a fly rod again. I have become a patient and good teacher, and now enjoy the time I spend teaching others, in particular adolescents to fly fish. I was not always so good at this. When my two oldest kids were both younger than five, I was not as patient as I became later. Not having as much fishing time as I would have liked, I sometimes resented the feeling of having to teach fly fishing, instead of just being able to lose myself in my passion. Yet I must have done something right, because years later they are both knowledgeable fly fishermen. |
