Allowing myself to be finned wasn't the stupidest thing I've ever done
What is the dumbest thing you've ever done while hunting, fishing, hiking or camping? That question crossed my mind last week after I allowed myself to be finned by a fiddler catfish at Rend Lake.

Lessons whilst fishing
An intense three days fishing, where to begin? Well on Friday I decided to hit the Kelvin as I have not fished it in a number of weeks now. A mixture of poor weather and the fact that at the weekends the place is chocka block made me fish other rivers. I decided on a [...].

Brook Trout and Brook trout Fishing

Brook trout are one of the most popular game fish in Canada. These fish can be found in the northern most parts of North America. What is so great about these fish? Is there a great location to go brook trout fishing? And, what type of lure and equipment do you need for trout fishing then? To answer these questions, you can begin by knowing something about the brook trout itself. Then, you can decide if brook trout fishing is something for you.

Brook trout, or Salvelinus Fontinalis, are also known by other names. You may have heard them called Speckled Trout, Aurora Trout, Sea Trout, Brookie or several other names. The fist itself ranges from 10-12 inches, but several larger fish have been caught as well. Their average weight tends to be about 5 pounds, again depending on the length. The largest brook trout caught came in at 21 inches long and 14.5 pounds. That fish, a very rare occurrence, was caught in Ontario on the Nipigon River.

A Different Kind Of Catch

Catching Them

At 50ft below the surface of the ocean, the blood in the water draws ocean predators to our position. A nurse shark's synapses are stimulated as blood drifts into its nostrils while it swims behind us with lethal nonchalance. A silvery barracuda sails over my head, jaws working feverishly. Worse, I come face to face with a green Moray Eel known to attack human divers - its 7ft long body ribboning through the water, its mouth, lined with fangs as it stops in front of me, eyeing me with a hungry gaze. It wants the fish I have in my hand.

Twenty minutes earlier we had assembled and donned our scuba gear under an electric, neon pink sky as squalls darkened the deck of the boat and made the water choppy. Wordlessly, my dive buddy falls backwards from the boat, hand clasped to regulator and mask, as I quickly follow.

Trout Species – Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout

Rainbow Trout are easily distinguished by the red stripe that travels the length of the fish, from the gill plates to the tail. Rainbow Trout also have hundreds of black spots that cover the dorsal of the body (the dorsal part of the body of a trout refers to the “back side” of the fish).

Brown Trout : Brown Trout are the "smartest" of the trout family, frequently frustrating beginners and professionals alike.

The Brown Trout, which is similar to the Rainbow Trout, is also found extensively throughout the world. The Brown Trout was originally a European and Asian fish, but has made its way to North America, New Zealand and South America. In the United States, Brown Trout are found extensively in the Rocky Mountains and also in Midwestern and Eastern U.S. trout streams.
