Fishing for Cutthroat Trout

Experienced fishermen know all about the cutthroat trout. That is because it is a huge gaming fish and it is difficult to catch. Why, then do so many fisherman go cutthroat trout fishing? These fish can be big and they offer a great flavor no matter if you plan to smoke, fry, or bake it. Cutthroat trout are some of the best fish to be caught.

The cutthroat trout is also known by other names including coastal cutthroat, Yellowstone cutthroat, Clark's trout, salmo clarki, lake trout, and other names. The fish has two forms that seem hard to separate. These two forms are the coastal cutthroat and the westslope or Yellowstone cutthroat. Cutthroat trout are about 12- 15 inches long and weigh anywhere from two pounds on up to 17 pounds. Quite a difference! The color of these fish is amazing.

Do You Know Anything About Stream Trout?

The term stream trout is actually a term used to encompass any of the stream trout. Brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout are all called stream trout because they like the running waters. But, stream trout do not have to be found in streams. This sounds strange but it's quite simple. By putting stream trout species into lakes, the fish can grow larger and offer more to the fisherman. And, in many cases, that is just what fisheries do.

Stream trout fishing on the other hand is a term used for fishermen who enjoy the stream fishing as opposed to the lake. In stream trout fishing, the fishermen are still catching trout (brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout). There are many areas of the country that this is considered one of the best forms of trout fishing. Many use fly fishing as their method of choice. Anglers know there way is great just as well. Regardless, stream trout offer some of the best fishing experiences you will encounter.

Fly Line Color

However, for top water or floating lines, the color of the line is generally immaterial as far as the fish goes. Whatever the color of the fly line, when looking up, a fish is bound to see it except for at night (when a dark line may prove beneficial). A fish looking up towards the surface of the water will see the fly line regardless of the color since the line itself is lit up from the light of the sky - and thus casting a shadow over the fish. Since this is generally accepted (although arguments do rage on about this), it is generally best to choose a fly line color that is easy for YOU to see. Brightly colored fly lines are much easier for the angler to see, and seeing the fly line is crucial for successful fly fishing - especially when fly fishing with nymphs. This is especially true in low light conditions, where actually seeing your fly is almost impossible, and the angler must instead rely on the actions of the fly line.
